Three provinces on the extreme south of the country (formerly part of Malaya) are still suffering from Muslim insurgency in something that could be described as low intensity civil war. Although exact numbers do not exist, at least 5.000 lives were already lost.

Country of rusty trains and chic veiled women, tremendous Bibliotheca Alexandrina, battered statues, ancient necropolises and omnipresent dust and heat.

I finally shot documentary film in West Kenya, commissioned by UNESCO. This experience is hard to describe. Entire villages wiped out by AIDS. In many families, adult population is missing. Only very old and very young survived. There is no government help available and very little solidarity. Those who can't support themselves simply die. My documentary is about Bethzatha Orphanage and Community Resource Centre - community based initiative and at least a small flicker of hope in the ocean hopelessness.
